Art. 17 TFEU | COMECE and CEC Presidents meet with EP President Metsola to discuss key European issues

29/06 - COMECE and CEC Presidents Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich and Rev. Christian Krieger met with Roberta Metsola and Othman Karas, President and Vice-President of the European Parliament. Mr. Karas is also responsible for Article 17 TFEU. Together they discussed the final report of the Conference on the Future of Europe (CoFoE), as well the ongoing war in Ukraine and the implementation of the Article 17 Treaty on the Functioning of the EU (TFEU).

NEWS | The COMECE Standing Committee meets with EPP President Manfred Weber

28/06 - The COMECE Presidency met with MEP Manfred Weber, President of the European People's Party (EPP). The meeting was held at the COMECE Secretariat and resulted in a frank and fruitful exchange on the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its consequences, more particularly on refugees and the energy crisis. They also addressed the follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe, including possible changes of EU treaties.

27/06 - Following the tragic incident that occurred on 25 June 2022, when around 2,000 migrants crossing from Morocco tried to break through the Melilla border fence, COMECE released the statement of its General Secretary Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto.

INTERNET | COMECE new website competing for the 2022 Eurid award. Vote for us!

23/06 - The new website of COMECE is competing for the "2022 Eurid Web Award in the "Laureals" category, which includes websites that represent educational institutions, charitable organisations and pan-European projects. Websites that will receive the greatest number of votes will move to the final round. Eurid is the nonprofit organisation appointed by the European Commission as the domain name registry that operates the ".eu" top-level domains.

NEWS | African Church delegation visits COMECE. Focus on "corporate abuse"

23/06 - A delegation of Church and community leaders from West Africa visited the COMECE Secretariat to draw attention to situations of corporate abuse and discuss with EU policy makers on how to improve EU Commission's proposal on the "Corporate sustainability due diligence" Directive.

The General Secretary of COMECE, Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, participates in the CCEE annual meeting of the General Secretaries of the Bishops' Conferences in Europe. The meeting is taking place in Zagreb, Croatia, in collaboration with the local Episcopate.

3-16 July

Graz International Summer School Seggau to take place in Seggauberg, Austria.

4 July

Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE, will be participating in an event on Conscientious Objection organised by the Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. The event will take place in Rome.

7 July

COMECE will receive the visit of a CAEPR delegation. CAEPR is a Metz-based association of students and former students of the theology department of the University of Lorraine in Metz.

12 July

COMECE will participate in the Article 17 Dialogue Seminar organised by the European Parliament on the topic “Humanitarian response to the war in Ukraine”. Our delegation will include H.E. Mgr. Robert J. Vitillo, General Secretary of the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC), and Fr. Manuel Barrios Prieto, General Secretary of COMECE.
